The four patch blocks below are made out of 4 squares, each the same size. It is one of the easiest blocks to make. The blocks below are made from a combination of squares, 1/2 square triangles and 1/4 square triangles.
Stunning quilts are created by combining different block combinations within the quilt. It is prefereable but not essential to use blocks that are of a similar format as this will ensure seams will meet creating a stunning yet pleasing design to the eye. So when creating your quilt select blocks that are all four patch or all nine patch and so forth.
I have created a range of blocks for you to use. I have also designed a couple of quilts using these blocks to give you an idea of what can be created. You will notice that some of the blocks have been rotated within the quilt design.
For inspiration I suggest
that next time you are at a quilt exhibition, browsing a magazine or
come across a quilt you love take a careful look at what combination of
blocks have been used and note them down.

There is an endless array of combinations that can be made to make your quilt. If the above looks a bit daunting then add in plain fabric squares. This is a great way to show off the design within a fabric. It also gives the quilt a more contemporary look.
